Years in the propane industry: 19

Please describe your role and responsibility, as well as your vision, in growing your company and connecting with propane customers of today: My most common responsibility is managing the operations of our different departments. I’m often sought to quell issues or to determine avenues to resolve daily challenges. A portion of my workweek is dedicated to meeting with customers and generating new business. Representing the company through a variety of civic organizations is an often-understated job. As a board member of our local chamber and a member of our local Rotary Club, I feel civic involvement is a key to success. Our vision is to continue operating a reputable family business. This is underscored by a symbiotic relationship between customer and company with a focus on sustainable growth by converting customers to propane.

Propane industry opportunities and threats: To develop cooperative relationships with other businesses and organizations for the betterment of the industry. … The shortsightedness of some focused on inner-industry growth by swapping steel and thinning margins.

How then can the propane industry prosper in the coming years? Prosperity in our industry can come from many directions. But I feel a marketer’s interest in community involvement and fair business practices will keep the customer thinking favorably of the provider and product.

What does your generation offer to the propane industry that previous generations did not? The most important thing my generation has to offer is the combined experience and teachings of our forefathers (and mothers). We are immeasurably fortunate to have many generations of hard-working family members and industry leaders to emulate.

What technologies are you using (or plan to use) to support business operations? We are using remote tank monitoring, onboard computers and software, and route optimization. We’re interested in any new technology available to streamline our processes and to offer a more refined experience with our company.
