Alkane to develop LP gas-fueled Class 8 cab-over

Alkane Truck Co. will produce a liquid propane autogas-powered Class 8 cab-over for the long-haul trucking industry, following the introduction of its LP gas-powered Class 7 cab-over and Dominator vehicle in 2015. In November 2015, the LP gas-powered Class 7 cab-over completed Department of Transportation certification, Alkane says. It was the first alternative fuel-powered cab-over to be introduced in that class, the South Carolina company adds. Alkane decided to use LP gas-powered engines because it’s been able to get good torque and because of the annual growth it’s seen in LP gas, says Alkane CEO Bob Smith. According to the company, dealers can expect to purchase the LP gas-powered Class 8 cab-over by the end of 2018.
