Energy Distribution Partners acquires California retailer

November 3, 2016 By

Energy Distribution Partners (EDP) acquired California-based Dassel’s Petroleum Inc., a company that sells propane, gasoline, diesel, oil and lubricants to customers in the central coastal region and central San Joaquin Valley of California.

According to EDP, Dassel’s Petroleum also provides tanks, related equipment and tank refurbishment services. Ray Dassel founded the propane business in 1939 on his parents’ ranch in Hollister, California. Dassel’s son Jim joined the business in 1971 and serves as its president today.

Under the Dassel family leadership, the company expanded into light fuels. Dassel’s Petroleum also became a Pacific Pride franchisee with four card-lock gasoline and diesel fueling stations. Additionally, Dassel’s Petroleum has made selective acquisitions, opened satellite locations and developed the Salinas rail terminal in Salinas, California.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dassel’s Petroleum to the EDP family of companies,” says Tom Knauff, EDP’s CEO. “We have already been active in Southern California, and adding Dassel’s expands our presence with five locations in central California. As a multigenerational family business, Dassel’s has close ties with local communities and has provided industry leadership for many years in groups such as the Western Propane Gas Association and California Independent Oil Marketers Association.”

EDP plans to retain Dassel’s Petroleum’s name after the acquisition is complete, Knauff adds. The acquisition is EDP’s sixth in 2016, and the Salinas rail terminal is the company’s first midstream asset.
