FMCSA issues safety advisory for cargo tank motor vehicle operators

December 3, 2015 By

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released a safety advisory for improperly installed emergency discharge control equipment on cargo tank motor vehicles in metered delivery service.

FMCSA, along with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the Railroad Commission of Texas, identified several LP gas cargo tanks with improperly installed emergency discharge control equipment that caused the vehicles to unintentionally shut down while in motion, according to National Propane Gas Association newsletter NPGA Reports.

FMCSA advises all cargo tank operators to thoroughly examine the installation of emergency discharge control equipment on their metered delivery cargo tank vehicles. Any improper installation must be refitted, inspected and certified by an FMCSA registered inspector.
