Gas shut-off device protects residential houses

August 17, 2017 By

The FireBag from Teco Americas is designed to provide a layer of protection for residential houses serviced with propane, butane or natural gas. Available in ½-in. to 2-in. sizes, the device can be oriented upstream of gas utility meter bars to work as an alternative to existing fire valves or downstream on individual customer house piping to isolate individual appliances. When installed at the gas meter, the FireBag automatically stops the flow of gas to the home in the event of a fire, the company says. When the ambient temperature reaches 203 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit, the FireBag’s internal metal alloy melts and releases a spring-operated plug to completely stop the gas flow, the company adds. The FireBag does not require much maintenance or regular inspections, according to Teco Americas.
