Give propane a chance for R&D funds

Propane marketers are fired up about the possibilities for autogas. But to make the opportunity a successful one, the industry needs the support of the Department of Energy (DOE) as it determines which fuels are eligible for research and development funds in vehicle and fuels technology, and which ones are not.

To even the playing field for propane, NPGA suggested participants at last week’s Propane Days encourage Congress to write a letter to Secretary Steven Chu to ensure propane and all alternative fuels are eligible for federal R&D funds. NPGA made the point at Propane Days that the DOE has found ways not to include programs in key R&D programs.
