McClendon named NPGA’s Distinguished Service Award recipient

June 10, 2015 By

Daryl McClendon, who started his career in the propane industry 50 years ago, received the National Propane Gas Association‘s (NPGA) Distinguished Service Award. NPGA named McClendon the recipient at Propane Days, the association’s annual lobbying event in Washington, D.C.

McClendon accepted the award with his family present and after an introduction from Barrett Propane‘s Malcolm Barrett, who chaired NPGA’s Distinguished Service Award Committee.

“When Malcolm first notified me that I was the recipient, I went to the [NPGA] directory to see the list of past recipients,” McClendon says. “I look at it every year when the directory comes out. I am honored to have had a chance to get to know or meet many of them. These are men I’ve admired and respected my whole career. To be included with them is quite special.”

McClendon, who is currently retired, spent significant time with Pargas and Suburban Propane during his career. He started with Pacific Gas & Electric, a northern California company, in 1965. McClendon also operated his own consulting business during two separate periods.

Among recent recipients of the Distinguished Service Award are Charles Revere (2014), Gene Bissell (2011) and Michael Gorham (2009).
