New PERC chairman to push technology initiative; council proposes $34 million budget plan

August 9, 2011 By

As new chairman of the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) for 2012, Joe Armentano of Paraco Gas says he and Executive Committee members will seek to raise propane industry awareness and support of the council’s technology development and commercialization program.

The program has helped the council’s manufacturing partners develop new propane-fueled appliances, vehicles and equipment.

“We need to bring more visibility to our technology initiative in a way that all marketers can identify with,” Armentano said. “Before the restriction of PERC activities in 2009, the propane industry relied on us to run a popular national advertising campaign. Today, they’re counting on us to deliver new products that meet customer needs and drive new propane demand.”

Armentano will be joined on the Executive Committee by Vice Chairman-Marketers Paula Wilson of AmeriGas, Vice Chairman-Producers Joe Gump of ConocoPhillips, Treasurer Gerry Misel of Georgia Gas Distributors and Secretary Eric Benson of JS West & Co.

Meeting in July in Portland, Ore., the council also authorized the publication of a proposed $34.4 million assessment budget for 2012. The budget plan, which assumes an assessment rate of four-tenths of a cent per gallon of odorized propane, has been published for industry and public comment through Sept. 1.
