Superior Fuel acquired Harbor City Oil and Propane, a Duluth, Minnesota-based fuel provider.

Harbor City customers were notified in writing of the merger. Harbor City has been owned and operated by the Kolquist family since the 1950s, but an increase in competition from large national companies has made it difficult to maintain a competitive edge, the company says. Harbor City has merged with Superior Fuel to continue to provide service to the community.

“While the name has changed, rest assured that the service will remain the same,” says Mark Kolquist, president of Harbor City. “You can depend on Superior Fuel to exceed expectations and provide fair and honest pricing. You won’t notice much change at all. In fact, you will still see me in the office as I stay on board.”

Superior Fuel says it has 500,000 gallons of available storage throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin, and the volume allows the company to maintain customer supply at agreed-upon rates.

“We are proud to earn the trust of the Kolquist family and happy Mark will be staying on. He is a well-respected member of the community,” says Ryan Gunderson, president of Superior Fuel. “Our team is excited for the future and we are proud to be the area’s only locally owned and operated energy provider.”
