Oregon school district to add 42 autogas vehicles

School busStudent Transportation of America Inc., a subsidiary of Student Transportation Inc., will provide 49 buses for the next school year to the Canby School District near Portland, Ore. Forty-two of those buses will run on propane autogas.

The Canby School District awarded Student Transportation of America a five-year, $3.1 million annual contract to provide its 5,000 students with transportation beginning Aug. 1. Student Transportation of America says the propane buses will replace the school district’s diesel buses.

“The majority of the new fleet we provide will be fueled by propane, an initiative for which our company has been an industry leader,” says Don Kissell, senior vice president of operations for Student Transportation of America, in a press release.

Student Transportation of America adds that this contract includes a renewal option, and it expands the company’s density in the Oregon market. The company will soon complete its first year of providing student transportation to the Lake Oswego County School District in Oregon, and it will soon start to serve Oregon’s Tigard-Tualatin School District this July. The company plans to use primarily propane-fueled buses at all three of the Oregon school districts it now serves.
