Propane bobtail among vehicles showcased at Roush event

Propane autogas fuel system developer Roush CleanTech held a propane vehicle spec review Tuesday at its headquarters in Livonia, Mich.

The company displayed propane-powered chassis options for bobtails, crane trucks, cylinder exchange trucks and service trucks, as well as for other fleet applications. A Ford F-650 bobtail with a 6.8-liter V10 engine and 3,000-gallon propane barrel was among the vehicles available for a walk-around.

Executives from Ford Motor Co. and Roush CleanTech discussed the new chassis specs and benefits of the Ford platforms. The company says it will offer a new F-650 and F-750 next year, allowing it to expand into Class 7 vehicles. Specs on the Ford F-250 and F-350 pickup truck and the F-450 and F-550 chassis cab were also discussed.

Presentations focused on the overall benefits of propane autogas compared to diesel. Roush CleanTech also led a tour for the 55 attendees that showcased the company’s role in preparing engines for Blue Bird school buses, as well as the work that goes into developing fuel rails and tanks for vehicles that run on propane autogas.

Vehicles running on the Roush CleanTech propane autogas fuel system have contributed to about 300 million gallons in propane sales, the company says.
