Rail terminal to provide Upper Midwest another supply option

March 4, 2015 By

A wholesale propane rail terminal in Barron, Wis., about 90 miles east of Minneapolis is virtually complete. According to Alpha Development & Construction, a company that contracted with Northwoods Propane on the project, the terminal has 360,000 gallons of storage and five rail unloading towers. The terminal, called the Propane Depot, has the capacity to meet the needs of six trucks per hour, the company adds.

“The impact for farmers, industry and rural heating customers is in excess of 2 million gallons of propane per week, available locally,” says Reggie Fraley, president at Alpha Development & Construction. “This is very significant [in that] drivers currently have to run about 100 miles to sit in line to get on terminal to fill, then return.”
