CarriersEdge, a training provider for the trucking industry, has added a new training course that takes drivers through the safety procedures and legal responsibilities that follow an accident.
The course teaches a four-step process – stop, secure, report and document – for accident reporting. There are several topics covered by the course, which include appropriate behavior at an accident scene; how to secure a vehicle with warning signs; how to assist the injured; collecting pertinent information for an accident report; and drug and alcohol testing. The course also includes a segment on post-traumatic stress disorder for drivers involved in accidents.
According to Jane Jazrawy, CEO of CarriersEdge, the course teaches a full process, “so that it’s easy to remember and a driver can respond appropriately in a high-stress situation.”
CarriersEdge developed the course in response to feedback from its fleet customers and the insurance companies with which it works. According to CarriersEdge, the company’s insurance partners noticed a gap in their clients’ knowledge of accident scene reporting. By combining their research into truck-based safety best practices with what their partners have learned, CarriersEdge developed this course to help fill that knowledge gap.
