2026 LP Gas Rising Leader: Gabe Jones

Gabe Jones
Company: Jones Propane / Jacksonville, North Carolina
Job title: President
Years in the propane industry: 7
How did you get your start in the propane industry?
I grew up in a family propane business. I started out painting tanks and filling cylinders at a very young age. My dad passed away in 2021, and I had to step into a leadership role. That’s when I really had to learn the business fast and take things more seriously.
How do you help lead your company in your current role?
I spend a lot of my time in the office running the business, but I still get out in the field because it shows me what is really needed. Seeing firsthand what my guys are dealing with every day helps me understand the challenges, support them better and not take anything for granted.
How can the propane industry ensure its long-term success and remain a viable energy source into the future?
The industry has to continue to educate the public on all the benefits of propane, its versatility, efficiency and reliability and why it’s a superior energy source for homes and businesses. I also think autogas may be a big driver for the future, helping propane reach new markets.
What does your generation offer to the propane industry that previous generations did not?
My generation is more comfortable with technology. We’re using social media to reach consumers and educate them on the benefits of propane more than ever before. And exploring AI to potentially make operations more efficient.
What specific technologies are you using (or plan to use) to support business operations?
Currently, I’m utilizing cellular tank monitors and a forecasting system to do my routing. We have tablets in delivery trucks, which saves tons of time versus writing tickets and saves time in the office not having to manually input the tickets into the computer. I’m thinking AI will eventually help predict service needs and optimize routes, improving efficiencies even more.
What propane industry associations are you involved with at the state and/or national level?
I’m a member of SEPA (Southeast Propane Alliance) and NPGA (National Propane Gas Association).
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself, your company and/or the propane industry?
Propane is my passion. And I take pride in every part of the business. My dad and grandpa built a strong foundation, and I’m honored to carry on their legacy.
