An unexpected career

Andrew Vogl didn’t plan to end up in the propane industry. A double major in finance and business with a minor in economics from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, Vogl started his career at Morgan Stanley in Boston.

But a lifelong relationship with Ray Murray Inc. President and CEO Michael Hopsicker eventually led Vogl to pursue a career there.

“I was drawn to an organization where I could make a meaningful impact, continue to grow professionally and contribute to a team committed to driving the business forward,” Vogl says.

Today, Vogl is the director of national accounts at Ray Murray.

“My role is dynamic – one of the aspects I enjoy most,” he explains. “On a daily basis, I focus on driving business growth, supporting our team and cultivating strong relationships with our valued customers and vendors. My work includes strategic planning, addressing operational challenges and coordinating initiatives across different areas of the organization.”

A rewarding industry

Vogl’s career is a “combination of purpose, impact and culture,” he says.

“I value working in an industry that is essential, evolving and deeply connected to the communities we serve. Service-oriented

In addition to his career at Ray Murray, Vogl is involved with the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and various state associations.

He currently serves as chairman of the PropanePAC, the NPGA’s political action committee. He is also the treasurer of the New York Propane Gas Association and is slated to become second vice president. He also serves as chairman of the New Jersey Propane Gas Association (NJPGA) Membership Committee and is a member of the NJPGA Strategic Planning Committee.

“As chairman of the NPGA PropanePAC, I help lead advocacy efforts – ensuring policymakers understand the propane industry and its essential role in energy, commerce and community safety.”

Bringing in talent

Vogl highlights three key areas on which the propane industry should focus to attract talent: highlighting career pathways, investing in development, and promoting innovation and impact.

Highlighting career pathways: “Many people don’t realize the depth and diversity of opportunities within propane – from operations and logistics to technology, sales and leadership roles,” he explains. “Sharing clear career pathways and success stories can help attract ambitious, high-performing professionals.”

Investing in development: “Providing mentorship programs, leadership training and professional development initiatives helps employees see that the industry invests in their growth.”

Promoting innovation and impact: “I know that the next generation of leaders want to work in industries where they can make a real tangible impact,” Vogl says. “Showcasing how propane contributes to energy efficiency, sustainability and economic growth can attract talented individuals.”

Hobbies

Vogl and his family live in Connecticut. They are all sports fans and enjoy rooting for the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills and New York Knicks, as Vogl is a proud New York native. They enjoy playing tennis, golf, hiking, going to the beach, skiing, traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with friends and family.

“Some of our happiest moments are simply being together with family and friends,” he says. “And that’s something we try to do as often as possible.”
