Koppy’s acquires propane division of Miller’s Gas & Oil Service

July 1, 2021 By

Koppy’s Propane has acquired the propane assets of Miller’s Gas & Oil Service. Based in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, since 1928, Miller’s Gas & Oil is a full-service heating fuels delivery business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed; the deal was finalized on June 15.

Founded by Frank J. Miller and Vera Miller, Miller’s Gas & Oil Service grew from a gas station with weigh scales and a restaurant to a propane, distillates and HVAC business. The Miller’s son William joined the business after Frank’s passing in 1969.

William’s son, Bill, came aboard the company in 1983 and helped start its propane division. Owner Bill Miller will retain the gas station, heating oil and related HVAC operations and assets of the business.

“Miller’s has been dedicated to making central Pennsylvania homes more energy-efficient and comfortable year-round,” Bill says. “We are pleased to have completed this successful transaction with Koppy’s Propane who will continue bringing Miller’s propane customers the service they count on.”

Founded in 1944, Koppy’s Propane serves propane customers throughout Pennsylvania. The company has made several acquisitions and added multiple storage facilities since relocating to its current headquarters in Williamstown in 1989.

“We are delighted to bring Miller’s propane division into the Koppy’s Propane family,” Koppy’s Propane President Kara Tucker says. “Their well-known local reputation and loyal customers are welcome additions to our operation. It is of the utmost importance to us to take care of their customers for many years to come.”

Jeff Brunner and Barrett Conway from Cetane Associates served as the exclusive financial advisers to Miller’s Gas & Oil Service in the transaction. Cetane advised on the sale, including an initial valuation opinion, marketing the business through a confidential process, assisting in negotiating the final deal terms and coordinating the due diligence process.
