The beginning

The Opelousas, Louisiana, native moved to Mississippi at the age of 10 and later attended school to become an automotive mechanic. Runnels found himself back in Louisiana and working on a dredge boat for six months before transferring to Corpus Christi, Texas.

Runnels joined Mississippi Tank Co. as a mechanic and worked his way to the fabrication shop as a welder/fitter for 12 years. From there, he transferred to material control as the supervisor, then to the engineering department as a project manager, followed by bobtail manager, and he finally landed as the vice president of operations 21 years later.

Runnels spent 44 years at Mississippi Tank Co. before beginning his new job at Lin’s Propane Trucks.

The new gig

As Southern regional sales manager, Runnels hopes to “bring a larger presence of Lin’s Propane Trucks in the southern part of the United States with a high-quality built bobtail.”

Runnels expressed his gratitude to Lin’s Propane Trucks for the opportunity and is excited to begin his new role.

Runnels and Lin’s Propane Trucks will be at the 2025 Southeastern and International Propane Expo in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 4-6.

About Lin’s Propane Trucks

Lin’s Propane Trucks began in 1980 when founder Lin Johnson decided that he wanted a 500-gallon truck. According to the company, after Johnson was “not taken seriously” while shopping for a truck, he commissioned his friend Norman Gravel to build him one. Gravel, a welder/fabricator, worked on the truck in a cow barn.

In 1983, Lin’s Propane Trucks acquired its second truck, which was a remount for Star Gas.

The company was eventually passed down to Johnson’s son, Andy Johnson, who is the current owner.
