Neill Gas Inc. acquired Acme Propane Gas of Highland Home and Montgomery, Alabama.

The transaction brings a new chapter for Acme Propane Gas and expands Neill Gas’ presence in the Southeast propane market, according to B&A Energy Partners, which announced the sale of Acme Propane Gas.

Acme Propane Gas has long been a locally owned and operated propane provider serving Highland Home, Montgomery and the surrounding areas in Alabama since 1971. The company was founded by Billy and Elizabeth Sexton as Highland Home Propane, later evolving into Acme Propane under the stewardship of their children Kim Sexton, Ken Sexton and Keenar Sexton Kelley. Over the years, Acme has grown its propane sales, appliance services and delivery operations into a respected regional player.

According to a news post on Neill Gas’ website, “Acme sincerely appreciates their customers and would like to thank them for the many years of dedication and ongoing support. Neill Gas Inc. is proud to continue this tradition of being a family business with top-notch customer service.”

Neill Gas, owned by the Waring family, is based in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The company has served customers in Mississippi, Louisiana and now in Alabama for over 65 years. It began as Neill Butane Inc. in 1960 and changed its name to Neill Gas Inc. in 1989. It has continually grown through acquisitions and now has locations in Vicksburg, Biloxi, Morton, Flowood, Starkville, Kosciusko, West Point and Louisville, Mississippi, and now will be in Highland Home and Montgomery, Alabama, and will soon be in Irvington, Alabama.

Neill Gas says it prides itself on providing prompt and courteous service. Its team of professionals is certified and trained to install propane gas systems in new and existing homes and businesses. According to Neill Gas, the Highland Home and Montgomery communities will continue to receive service from the same employees whom they have known with Acme Propane Gas. They will also remain in the local office areas with the same phone numbers.

“Neill Gas Inc. plans to make this transition as smooth as possible,” the company says in the news post. “The only change customers will see is a new name and different logo.”

B&A Energy Partners served as the exclusive broker for the transaction. It offered expertise in valuation, due diligence, buyer matching and deal structuring.

“We are proud to have partnered with the Sexton family in facilitating a transaction that preserves Acme’s legacy while enabling broader scale under Neill Gas,” says Benny Gay, who managed the transaction for B&A Energy Partners.
