Russ Bartels, director of AmeriGas Wholesale, will retire this July after more than 35 years with the company, AmeriGas announced.

Bartels began his career with AmeriGas at the Palatine, Illinois, district replacing cylinder valves. He transitioned to the supply and transportation team in 1988, and then the wholesale division in 1994.

“Russ’ impact on the U.S. propane supply and wholesale industry, not just AmeriGas, has been incredible,” Warren Patterson, vice president of commercial operations and sales at AmeriGas, says. “He is an active leader on our Houston leadership team, always advocating for new and effective ways to service our wholesale and AmeriGas customer base safely.”

AmeriGas will begin a search for candidates. Bartels will remain with the company during the transition and in a part-time consultative role.

“The best part of my job has been working with so many true professionals at AmeriGas over the years and building incredible relationships within the company and with our wholesale customers,” Bartels says.

Bartels and his wife Brenda plan to enjoy time with friends, family and Chicago Cubs baseball in retirement.
