Blue Rhino and the International Rhino Foundation (IRF), a global wildlife conservation organization, have renewed their partnership to raise awareness of rhino conservation efforts around the world.

As part of the partnership, Blue Rhino, a subsidiary of Ferrellgas, promotes IRF causes and encourages individuals to support its efforts through marketing campaigns and on tanks sold at retail exchange locations across the country.

“At Blue Rhino, we love and admire these majestic animals,” says Tamria Zertuche, COO of Ferrellgas. “We’re proud to support IRF’s mission as a part of our ongoing focus on sustainability.”

Blue Rhino got its name after its founder, Billy Prim, witnessed the strength and agility of rhinos during an African safari trip. Prim, a 2023 LP Gas Hall of Famer, wanted to build a company with a distinct brand name for the unique service the company provided.

Today, Blue Rhino tanks can be purchased at more than 60,000 locations in the U.S. The tanks are used as fuel for grills, griddles, fire pits, patio heaters and other propane-powered appliances.

IRF was founded in 1989 and operates on-the-ground programs where rhinos reside in Africa and Asia, supporting viable rhino populations and their surrounding communities. IRF focuses its conservation efforts on saving the five rhinoceros species remaining in the world today: Sumatran, Javan, greater one-horned, black and white rhinos.

“IRF could not do our work conserving rhinos without partners like Blue Rhino,” says Nina Fascione, executive director of IRF. “We’re grateful for their financial support, and more importantly for their reach in educating the public about why rhinos are important and why we should save them.”

Ferrellgas and its subsidiaries serve propane customers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. It is the nation’s second-largest propane retailer, according to LP Gas’ 2023 Top Propane Retailers ranking.
