Firm: Number of alternative fuel vehicles to nearly double in 20 years

July 15, 2014 By

Worldwide sales of alternative fuel vehicles will reach 14 percent of total sales of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles by 2035, according to a new report from Navigant Research. The total number of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in use worldwide will nearly double between 2014 and 2035, Navigant reports.

Navigant expects diesel to remain as the primary fuel choice for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The firm, however, expects the percentage of such vehicles powered by diesel to fall from more than 79 percent in 2014 to 76 percent in 2035.

In the report, “Transportation Forecast: Medium and Heavy Duty Vehicles,” Navigant analyzes the global medium- and heavy-duty vehicle market in seven segments – one of which is propane autogas vehicles.
