The World LPG Association (WLPGA) hosted LPG Week 2021 in Dubai and virtually Dec. 5-9, with the theme “Energizing Tomorrow.”

WLPGA’s Expo 2020 – postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic – took place concurrently, with the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.”

The hybrid event brought together 2,000 participants from 92 countries. More than 80 speakers presented on top messages for the LPG industry.

For one, LPG has proven to be an essential energy source during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Supply chains ensured demand was met across all sectors, demonstrating the resilience and opportunities of LPG, says David Appleton, vice president, LPG, at Argus Media.

As the world moves toward net zero in 2050, each country will have a different transition path. All technologies are needed to reach net zero, and LPG and renewable LPG have a key role to play, according to WLPGA.

The association says renewable LPG can meet at least 50 percent of non-chemical demand by 2050. With innovations in technology and developments in renewable LPG and renewable DME, these advancements demonstrate how quickly the industry can move forward with the right fuel and the right partners.

LPG is not only a transition fuel but set to be part of the solution.

LPG is a fuel of the future, according to H.E. Prof Yemi Osinbajo, vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“There is an optimistic future and we will grow in a robust manner,” he says.

During the next decade, access to clean cooking fuel will become a greater need.

“We need both the molecules as well as the electrons, which means that gases, as well as electricity, will play an important role in the way our future will unfold in the energy sector,” says Gauri Singh, deputy director general for the International Renewable Energy Agency.

Registered attendees of LPG Week 2021 can access the virtual platform and recorded sessions on-demand through March 10, 2022.

WLPGA plans to hold the next LPG Week, “Humanizing Energy,” in New Delhi, India, from Dec. 5-9, 2022. Visit lpgweek.com for more information.
