Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., visited with propane business leaders and toured a South Central FS facility in Flora, Illinois.

According to the Illinois Propane Gas Association, a number of city officials and business leaders met with Shimkus, including Bob Tackitt, Flora’s mayor; Dan Sulsberger, Flora’s economic development director; Gerald Witges, South Central FS’ energy marketing manager; and Ron Kaufman, South Central FS’ certified propane specialist.

Shimkus learned about propane transportation and distribution infrastructure during his visit. While on the tour, Shimkus discussed the critical role propane plays in Illinois’ economy, specifically in the agriculture and residential heating sectors, the Illinois Propane Gas Association says.

“Congressman Shimkus has been a tremendous advocate for Illinois consumers and businesses,” says Aaron DeWeese, executive vice president of the Illinois Propane Gas Association. “The propane industry contributes $1.5 billion to the state’s economy, and we are looking forward to continuing our work with Congressman Shimkus and his colleagues.”
