As Liquid Gas Week concluded this year in Rio de Janeiro, global LPG leaders were already looking ahead to the 2026 event in Istanbul.

The World Liquid Gas Association’s (WLGA) next flagship global event will take place Oct. 12-16, 2026, at the Istanbul Conference Center, under the theme “Resilience in a Changing World.”

According to the WLGA, Turkey consumes more than 4.5 metric tons of LPG a year – most of which is used in the transportation sector. Turkey is one of the largest autogas markets in the world with more than 4.8 million vehicles running on LPG.

Recapping Rio

The 2025 Liquid Gas Week in Rio, with the theme “Delivering Energy for Life,” drew more than 1,700 delegates, exhibitors and visitors from 70 countries in September. The top five countries with the most attendees were Brazil, the United States, China, India and Argentina, respectively.

The week featured high-level sessions, focus meetings, networking events and a ministerial keynote address by Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s minister of mines and energy. He reaffirmed the role of LPG in delivering clean, modern energy to millions of people worldwide. Suburban Propane’s Nandini Sankara and Cole Smith also delivered a keynote on technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and the future of LPG.

Also taking place throughout the week: WLGA internal meetings, Latin America Day, the Global Technology Conference (GTC) and the Global Science Conference (GSC).

The GTC and GSC highlighted innovation and scientific advancement across the industry. Nexio Power won the GTC Innovation Award for its LPG truck project for the global market. The Texas-based company supplies LPG engines and is developing a propane-fueled bobtail for the U.S. market. GTI Energy received top GSC honors for its research on renewable LPG from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Meanwhile, the World LPG Challenge recognized Cognittiv for its AI-driven safety solution.

Also at Liquid Gas Week, the WLGA Youth Council launched an AI guide, and the Women in LPG network celebrated its 10th anniversary.

U.S. delegates

In addition to Sankara, Smith and Mike Stivala of Suburban Propane participating in Rio, Liquid Gas Week showcased speakers from companies and organizations serving the U.S. propane industry. They included Sonya Higginbotham of Worthington Enterprises, Daniel Libralato of Anova, Horace Mast and Gary Winemaster of Nexio, Tucker Perkins of the Propane Education & Research Council, Brooke Siebert of Ferrellgas and Rocio Verduzco Alvarado of Makeen Energy USA.

This year’s hybrid format allowed participants to join the event in person and online.
