NPGA’s Young Professionals Council holds days of service

The National Propane Gas Association’s (NPGA) new Young Professionals Council (YPC) held days of service earlier this month in partnership with Operation BBQ Relief, an organization that feeds first responders, relief workers and displaced families following natural disasters.
YPC members participated in the days of service in Kansas City, Missouri, and St. Paul, Minnesota. Ferrellgas, Lakes Gas and Westmor sponsored the events.
In Kansas City, volunteers met with Stan Hays, co-founder of Operation BBQ Relief, and served local fire chiefs, firefighters and office staff at five fire stations in the metro area: Leavenworth, Lenexa, Shawnee, Belton and Lees Summit. Including the personnel arriving from neighboring fire stations and sheriff’s departments, YPC members served about 200 meals.

In St. Paul, the volunteers served about 100 meals to first responders at a fire training facility and packed another 100 meals for delivery.
“We had a terrific turnout for Operation BBQ Relief’s support of first responders,” says Steph Hennen of Lakes Gas, who helped to launch the YPC earlier this year. “We hope to expand YPC’s efforts next year.
“As a council,” she adds, “we’re proud to be able to do things that support those within our industry and those outside of our industry.”
NPGA says the YPC also raised more than $4,500 in donations from the events.
The YPC is an official business council for individuals 40 and under working for an NPGA-member company. It held its first meeting this month in San Antonio.
Since its launch in May 2011, Operation BBQ Relief has served about 12 million meals across 42 states, using propane as a primary cooking fuel.
