Propane industry loses ‘true champion’
David Lugar, an executive at AmeriGas and former chairman of the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) board of directors and Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), died Nov. 18 at age 59.
Lugar most recently served as AmeriGas’ vice president of supply and logistics. In that position, the Oklahoma native and Texas resident helped to oversee propane supply contract negotiations and risk management transactions to support retail sales and marketing platforms. He stepped down from the position in August.
Prior to his 15-plus years with AmeriGas, Lugar worked for Conoco Inc. for 21 years in various commercial and management positions in the natural gas and gas products department.
In addition, Lugar was an active member of NPGA, serving on the board of directors as a supplier member while employed by Conoco and later as a marketer member with AmeriGas. In more recent years, he served as NPGA’s chairman of the board from 2014-15 and as chairman-elect from 2013-14. He was also a charter member of PERC, which formed in 1996, and served in various officer positions on the council, including two terms as PERC chairman in 2003-05.
“The industry has lost a true champion, and the world has lost a good man,” says Anne Keller, founder of Midstream Energy Group. “I’ve worked with David since 1986 in many of his roles, and he’s always been an example of the best of our industry. Our sympathy to his family and friends.”
