ThompsonGas grows in Northern California, Northwest

November 14, 2019 By

ThompsonGas, headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, purchased Laytonville Gas Co. Inc., a heating fuel provider in Northern California, and APP Propane, a propane provider in Tacoma, Washington.

The acquisitions strengthen ThompsonGas’ national footprint by expanding the company’s presence in the northwestern United States.

Founded in 1950, Laytonville Gas serves residential, commercial and industrial customers in Laytonville, California, and the surrounding area.

“Northern California is an excellent place to do business,” says Jim Davis, COO of ThompsonGas. “The entire team at ThompsonGas is looking forward to expanding our presence in the region and providing our customers with the best products and services available in the industry.”

Reporting sales of 10 million gallons, APP Propane tied for the 34th largest U.S. propane retailer in the 2019 LP Gas Top Propane Retailer rankings. ThompsonGas will add the APP Propane business to its Propane Northwest brand, explains Davis.

“We are very excited to add APP Propane to our existing operations in the Northwest,” says Jeff Kerns, CEO of ThompsonGas. “This is a significant addition to our customer base and we bring strong, tenured propane professionals with this acquisition into the ThompsonGas family.”

ThompsonGas now serves more than 175,000 customers in 20 states.
