ThompsonGas purchases Associated Propane

September 1, 2020 By

ThompsonGas, headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, will acquire California-based Associated Propane.

ThompsonGas says it is committed to serving the residential, commercial and agricultural customers who valued Associated Propane for more than 60 years.

“We are pleased to announce that we have added Associated Propane to the ThompsonGas team located in Petaluma, California,” says Jeff Kerns, CEO of ThompsonGas. “This new addition gives us the ability to expand our ever-growing California operations.”

This acquisition grows ThompsonGas’ presence in Northern California. Associated Propane is the company’s sixth acquisition in 2020. Most recently, ThompsonGas acquired Midwestern Propane Gas in Illinois.

“Our ability to add Associated Propane into our California market strengthens our local northwest California footprint,” says Jim Davis, COO of ThompsonGas. “We are excited to watch the Petaluma team continue to grow and expand its service territory.”

Bryce Pattison, previous owner of Associated Propane, says company culture was one of the main factors he and his partner, Sara Brandenburg, considered when deciding to sell the business.

“We needed a partner that would take care of our employees, customers and community,” Pattison says. “Associated Propane and the ‘Flying A’ brand have been serving the North Bay’s energy needs for over 60 years. We’re confident ThompsonGas will continue that legacy into the future.”

Founded in 1946, ThompsonGas provides propane services to more than 200,000 residential and commercial customers across 20 states in the East, Southeast, West and Midwest, and is currently the sixth largest propane company in the country, according to LP Gas’ Top Propane Retailer rankings.
