Top Retailers speak on delivery vehicle features

LP Gas asked propane retailers in our 2025 Top Propane Retailers survey the following question: When it comes to your propane delivery vehicles, what features are most important to you? Here’s a sampling of their answers.

Safety features are the top priority. We invest in equipment that ensures the well-being of both our drivers and the communities we serve. Features such as advanced braking systems, backup cameras, vehicle stability controls and onboard monitoring systems are critical to maintaining a high standard of safety. Equally important are features that make the job easier and more efficient for our hardworking drivers. User-friendly controls, ergonomic seating and well-designed hose reels reduce physical strain and improve daily operations. Additionally, incorporating modern routing systems and fleet management tools allows drivers to navigate efficiently while staying focused on safety.”

“Accuracy in the delivery volume and truck communication to our billing system.”

“Reliability, fuel efficiency, real-time tracking capabilities and enhanced safety systems to ensure smooth, accurate and timely deliveries.”

“Partnering with the right truck builder that has our best interest at heart.”

“Remote PTO to extend PTO life. Comfort for the driver team that spends countless hours in the cab of the trucks. Air-ride seats, etc.”

Bobtail capacity, safety features and dependability during winter months.”

“Electronic features in the cabin, cameras (forward and backing), tires, engine, shell.”

“The ability to navigate on snowy, mountain roads.”

“Size of the bottle, along with pumping speed.”

“Having reliable trucks that are not continuing to have issues. If our truck is not on the road, more than likely, we aren’t making money. Being able to see where our drivers/service techs are is important because we can add/remove to their routes as needed to improve efficiencies.”

“Most of our propane fleet is on a Kenworth chassis and vessel sizes ranging from 3,200-5,000 trucks. We put emphasis and focus on having quality rolling stock. Our trucks are proactively maintained and have safety emergency shutdowns and query systems.”

“Automatic transmission, power in power out hose reels, digital meters, hose guides, backup camera, mapping systems, quick connects from hose to tank.”

“Safety features, tank size and gallons pumped per minute.”

“Reliability. We work with a select few dealerships in the area that not only supply us with great equipment, but also service the equipment they sell in a timely manner.”

“The features that we’ve found most important for safety and comfort for our drivers are: automatic chains, heated mirrors, additional light bar/flashers, work lights, backup cameras, Verizon’s Reveal application, including front-facing cameras, emergency shutdown remote, application safety equipment on each truck, reel in/out on the remote. Of course, top priority is vehicle maintenance, especially preventative maintenance.”

“Capacity, efficiency, durability, ease of maintenance, safety features and fuel efficiency.”

“Reliability of our bobtails is extremely important as we need to make sure our trucks are able to be on the road to serve our customers.”
