Fatih Birol to deliver keynote at Liquid Gas Week 2026
Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), will deliver the keynote speech at Liquid Gas Week, the flagship event of the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA), Oct. 12-16 in Istanbul.

Birol is an economist and energy expert who has served as the executive director of the IEA since 2015. During his time leading the IEA, he has taken a series of steps to modernize the organization, including to bring the agency to the forefront of global efforts to ensure secure, affordable and sustainable energy systems, WLGA says.
Birol has been included on the Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people, named by Forbes magazine among the world’s most influential people and recognized by the Financial Times as Energy Personality of the Year. He is the recipient of the highest decorations from some 20 governments, including France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates. He is also the chairman of the World Economic Forum (Davos) Energy Advisory Board.
“I look forward to joining Liquid Gas Week in Istanbul to underscore the important role that liquid gas, including LPG, plays in expanding reliable and affordable energy access around the world,” Birol says. “This gathering provides a valuable opportunity to engage with industry leaders and policymakers on how we can further leverage liquid gas as a practical, scalable solution to improve livelihoods and strengthen energy systems globally.”
Liquid Gas Week 2026 is a critical global event that brings together leaders across LPG, LNG, bio-LPG and renewable gases. It provides a platform to set policy directions, showcase new technologies and strengthen supply-chain cooperation amid evolving energy-security challenges.
Hosting the event in Istanbul, the crossroads of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, highlights the region’s growing strategic role in gas trading and infrastructure, according to WLGA. By uniting producers, distributors, innovators and regulators, the week accelerates investment, supports decarbonization efforts and shapes the future trajectory of the liquid gas sector worldwide, the association adds.
