On January 1, I joined the World Liquid Gas Association as the business development director. And really my priorities in that role … I think a lot of it’s about innovation. Innovating our fuel, innovating operations and innovating applications for our fuel. So it covers all aspects of improving our industry for the future. I have a lot of experience in renewable fuels, renewable liquid gasses, so that’s a part of my role. As far as innovating operations, one of my top priorities is digitalization and Internet of Things and how we optimize our operations, which ultimately kind of complements renewables in that it lowers our carbon intensity because we become more efficient. And part of that also is our annual WLGA challenge competition that connects our industry with the startup community to bring in the latest technology and the latest advancements. And then on the application side, all sorts of applications, whether it’s autogas on-road, which is a huge market globally, is one of my priorities. I mean every market and every application, power gen is a big priority. But it certainly doesn’t end there.
Who are WLGA members?
Our members cover the gamut of the industry. You know, it includes propane marketers and distributors. It also includes producers and as well as component manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, autogas companies. And so, our focus is across all of those member categories. And we pride ourselves on bringing a lot of value to members in every one of those categories. If anyone is not a member of WLGA, I really encourage you to connect and learn how you can become part of this organization that really represents the industry on a global stage, and find a way to connect with the leaders who are part of our organization.
WLGA: The rebranding
Previously, we were known as the World LPG Association, WLPGA. January 1, we rebranded to the World Liquid Gas Association, and part of that is just looking at the future of our industry, and as our industry and many of our members adopt new fuels and new molecules into their supply chain, they aren’t necessarily petroleum products. So we changed our name to the World Liquid Gas Association, but make no doubt about it, we still represent the world LPG industry, and are very proud of what our industry delivers to our customers.
Opportunities in propane
Oh boy, there are so many opportunities for our industry. We have the perfect fuel to meet so many customer demands. I mean, I could go on and on about the attributes, and of course, the LP Gas listeners know those attributes of our fuel, and that just creates so many opportunities. Power gen is a very good opportunity. I believe, on-road continues to be an opportunity in industrial applications. Anything that’s hard to decarbonize, we have the right fuel to solve that issue. On the global stage, the work we do with clean cooking in developing countries is really important, and really something that I take a great amount of pride in because it’s so impactful and so important for not just those countries, but those communities and individuals.
The future of the U.S. propane industry
The U.S. propane industry, I’ve spent a lot of years in. I started out working at PERC and then spent some time in renewable fuels. The industry is really working together well to advance the industry. I am really pleased to be on board at WLGA and continue to be based in the U.S. to work with NPGA and PERC and all the members here to continue to move our industry forward because the future is very bright. The key is that we continue to collaborate and advance the industry together.
