EDP has partnered with GiGi’s Playhouse on an initiative to help change the way the world views Down syndrome.

In October, recognized as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, EDP unveiled a custom-wrapped bobtail at the GiGi’s Playhouse in Deerfield, Illinois. The event was attended by families served by the Deerfield GiGi’s facility along with several EDP executives and their families. The unveiling of the custom-wrapped bobtail was a surprise to EDP team members in attendance who have family members touched by Down syndrome.

GiGi’s Playhouse – a national organization with 58 locations across the U.S. and Mexico – is working to change the way the world views a Down syndrome diagnosis and to send a global message of acceptance for all. Every day, GiGi’s Playhouse provides free, therapeutic, educational and career training programs for more than 30,000 individuals of all ages.

At the event, EDP President and COO Boyd McGathey revealed the bobtail and announced a commitment to donate 1 cent per gallon delivered by the Brightstar Propane delivery truck over the next 12 months, or a minimum of $5,000. The Brightstar bobtail is one of 10 bobtails at various EDP operations across the country that donate a percentage of sales to various charities.

“We are thrilled to establish this partnership with GiGi’s Playhouse and make this commitment to such an amazing organization,” McGathey says. “Down syndrome touches many families, including our EDP family, so we are eager to not only make a financial commitment to GiGi’s, but also – thanks to the exciting graphics on the bobtail – raise awareness of this wonderful organization and what it is doing to support families with a Down syndrome member.”

Chicago-based EDP, an LP Gas Top Propane Retailer, has experience in retail and commercial propane sales, operations and finance. The company provides propane service to residential and commercial customers in 19 states.
