Lakes Gas expands presence in South Dakota
Lakes Gas, headquartered in Wyoming, Minnesota, acquired the propane and refined fuel operations of Northeast Oil in Rosholt, South Dakota.
Lakes Gas will sell propane and refined fuels from the Rosholt location to residential, agricultural and commercial customers in northeast South Dakota, western Minnesota and southeast North Dakota. The operations will be blended with Lakes Gas’ Sisseton, South Dakota, location.
“We are grateful to add to our market presence in the tri-state area,” says Trent Hampton, CEO of Lakes Gas. “We intend to provide local service from our Rosholt and Sisseton locations, and to be active in those communities.”
The transaction is Lakes Gas’ fifth acquisition in the past 18 months. It also purchased two companies in Wisconsin (Hohl’s Propane and Van’s Gas Service), one in northern Illinois (Blackhawk Propane) and one in North Dakota (Foss-Johnson Oil).
Founded in 1959, Lakes Gas is now among the Top 15 U.S. propane retailers for retail gallon sales, according to the 2023 LP Gas Top Propane Retailers ranking. It operates 54 outlets in six states in the Upper Midwest.
