Palmer Gas & Oil appoints Don Lamprey as director of operations
Palmer Gas & Oil promoted Don Lamprey to director of operations.

Lamprey’s roots in the energy industry run deep. He got his start as a teenager working in his family’s business, Lamprey Energy, before joining the company full time around 1990. When Palmer Gas & Oil acquired Lamprey Energy in 2018, he became part of the Palmer team – bringing with him decades of hands-on experience and a people-first mindset, according to the company.
Lamprey has taken on several key roles across the organization. He managed Palmer’s North Hampton location and later led the development of the company’s advanced training facility. Under his guidance, the company says, the facility grew into a standout resource, featuring more than 50 pieces of live-fire equipment used to train technicians and apprentices.
“Don has been an integral part of Palmer’s growth over the years,” says Charlie Ermer, Palmer’s vice president of business operations. “His experience – both from his time with Lamprey Energy and his leadership here at Palmer – gives him a unique perspective that will serve our teams and customers incredibly well. We’re thrilled to see him step into this role.”
Lamprey’s work in training has been especially impactful, helping ensure employees stay up to date with evolving technologies in the energy industry, an area he sees as critical moving forward.
“The industry is changing quickly, and it’s important that we keep pace,” Lamprey says. “We want to make sure our employees have the tools and knowledge they need to provide the best possible experience for our customers.”
In his new role, Lamprey plans to focus on collaboration and continuous improvement across the company.
“My first priority is working closely with our managers and teams,” he says. “Palmer is already a great company, and I’m looking forward to helping bring it to the next level.”
Joanne Ermer, Palmer’s vice president of human resources and safety, emphasizes Lamprey’s leadership style and alignment with Palmer’s core values.
“Don truly understands what makes this company special,” she says. “He’s experienced both the close-knit environment of a family business and the growth of a progressive company like Palmer. He leads with integrity, cares deeply about people and brings a level of experience that’s hard to match.”
Lamprey also brings a well-rounded background from his time at Lamprey Energy, where he was involved in all aspects of the business. He credits the shared values between the two companies as key to a smooth transition.
“When Palmer acquired Lamprey Energy, it felt like a natural fit,” Lamprey says. “We both believed in taking care of employees and customers first. If you do that well, everything else follows.”
A long-term industry advocate, Lamprey has also served for many years on the board of the Energy Marketers Association of New Hampshire, staying closely connected to developments across the field.
Reflecting on his journey, Lamprey points to the relationships he’s built along the way as especially meaningful.
“I’ve known Bill for over 30 years through industry events,” he says. “That sense of kindness and genuine care – both personally and professionally – is something that really defines Palmer.”
