Ray Murray Inc. to host 2022 Bobtail Roadeo
Ray Murray Inc. (RMI) is gearing up for its 2022 Bobtail Roadeo Tournament of Champions, set for Aug. 3 in Lee, Massachusetts.
The event, the first of its kind for RMI, will pit 15 drivers against one another in a friendly training event and driver skills competition.
“It’s really to reward the propane drivers who continuously do a great job every year,” says Kevin Bayley, LP business development manager for RMI. “It’s nice to be able to do something like this for the drivers.”
Bayley says the free event, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will combine training and competition with fun, food and a relaxing atmosphere. Several vendors will be on hand to showcase their equipment.
A Massachusetts state trooper will begin the event by reviewing recent rule changes and updates. Then, using two bobtails provided by Lin’s Propane Trucks, the drivers will compete in a pre-trip inspection process and test their skills on the course, which offers challenges like parallel parking and maneuvering the bobtail in reverse.
Bayley says the course represents for drivers “everything they do every day.” But the Bobtail Roadeo gives them that opportunity to test their skills against their propane industry peers.
“All drivers are competitive, just like the service techs,” says Bayley, whose own bobtail driving experience spans about 20 years.
Drivers interested in participating can contact Bayley at kbayley@raymurray.com or 413-281-9023.
