Safety technology empowers drivers

Lytx, a provider of machine vision- and artificial intelligence-powered video telematics, analytics, safety and productivity solutions for propane fleets and other sectors, added technological capabilities that put more power in the hands of drivers and enable greater risk detection while respecting driver privacy.

This new approach to safety assists drivers in being more proactive and accountable for their improvement, while giving management data to effectively monitor and intervene if needed.

New capabilities within Lytx’s safety offerings include:

  • “Inattentive” trigger: detects when the driver’s attention may be unfocused or the driver may be experiencing fatigue or drowsiness without reliance on an accelerometer event.
  • Real-time in-cab alerts for five different risky driving behaviors: cellphone use, eating and drinking, smoking, no seat belt and speeding (posted and policy).
  • Behavior duration reporting: tracks and quantifies both the duration and percentage of drive time a driver engaged in a risky driving behavior, providing a more holistic view of persistent risk.

With these updates, the DriveCam Event Recorder will issue an alert to help drivers recognize and address their own risky behaviors and self-correct in the moment. Depending on the behavior, the alert will include a light and/or a spoken phrase.

Drivers also have access to check-in tools, allowing them to review their own video and performance after the fact, including behavior duration. This supports long-term retention of lessons learned during a drive, says Lytx.

If desired, managers can stay informed by subscribing to push notifications and reports on pertinent data and information.

A new configuration of Lytx’s DriveCam Event Recorder – risk identification without recording – allows the DriveCam to detect patterns of distracted or unwanted driving behaviors inside the cab without recording video of the driver.

This configuration is designed for fleets who opt to disable in-cab video recording, allowing them to benefit from in-cab risk detection while respecting driver privacy.
