ThompsonGas purchases Ultra Energy

July 22, 2021 By

Frederick, Maryland-based ThompsonGas has acquired Ultra Energy, headquartered in Hammond, Wisconsin.

Steve and Judy Guise founded the company in 2004 out of their home in River Falls, Wisconsin. In 2009, they built the current Ultra Energy office and facility in Hammond. ThompsonGas is welcoming both the customers and employees of Ultra Energy to its team.

“We are very happy to welcome Ultra Energy to our family of companies,” Jim Davis, COO of ThompsonGas, says. “Ultra Energy aligns with our vision in the Upper Midwest to strengthen our footprint and storage capabilities, so we can provide a better service [for] our customers.”

This acquisition is ThompsonGas’ third in 2021. The first was All Service Propane in Anderson, California, and the second was the acquisition of certain bulk propane assets of Airgas USA, located in Maryland, southeastern Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Founded in 1946, ThompsonGas provides propane services to more than 230,000 residential and commercial customers across 21 states in the East, Southeast, West and Midwest. The company ranks No. 6 among U.S. propane marketers for sales of retail propane gallons, according to LP Gas’ 2021 Top Propane Retailers ranking.
