Alternative fuel vehicle, engine companies set to merge

Fuel Systems Solutions Inc. voted to approve the company’s proposed merger with Westport Innovations Inc. at a special stockholders meeting May 31. Westport shareholders had approved the agreement in March.

The companies entered into a merger agreement last September to create an alternative fuel vehicle and engine company. Westport engineers high-performance, low-emission fuel systems and vehicle technologies, including some for propane autogas. Fuel Systems Solutions designs, manufactures and supplies alternative fuel components and systems.

According to Fuel Systems Solutions, the companies received all approvals necessary to complete the deal, expected to close June 1. The merged company will conduct business under the name Westport Fuel Systems Inc., combining 17 brands in the automotive space.
