Hiller Fuels, a 139-year-old energy marketer in Marion, Massachusetts, has sold to Falmouth Energy, a fourth-generation heating and HVAC company serving the South Coast and Cape Cod region.

Frazier & Deeter FuelExchange, formerly Gray, Gray & Gray FuelExchange, announced the sale. Marty Kirshner of Frazier & Deeter FuelExchange represented Hiller Fuels in the transaction.

Hiller Fuels has serviced Marion customers for more than a century, providing fuel oil and coal to the region. It also fills propane tanks up to 40 pounds at its office.

Falmouth Energy’s tradition of service to Cape Cod-area customers began over 80 years ago with heating oil and kerosene delivery, and has evolved today to include a wide range of heating, cooling and fuel delivery services.

“Marty Kirshner and the FuelExchange team were excellent to work with throughout the sale of Hiller Fuels. They made a complex process clear, simple and straightforward, which helped the sale feel far less daunting,” says Braly Crawford-Hiller, the sixth-generation owner of Hiller Fuels. “Marty’s connections were instrumental in finding the right owner to carry on our company’s legacy. He and his team worked hard to give my family and me the confidence to place our name and nearly 140 years of history in someone else’s hands. We are grateful for their dedication, guidance and care shown throughout the process.”

Kirshner adds, “We are happy that we were able to find the right buyer for Hiller Fuels. Everybody at Hiller was great to work with, and we are grateful they chose FuelExchange to represent their family and their legacy. The most successful transactions occur when you look past the numbers and into the human side of a company. The Hiller family was very open about sharing what was important to them, which then influenced the way we marketed the business.”

Frazier & Deeter FuelExchange assists those interested in buying, selling or merging a propane, fuel oil or petroleum business, helping to facilitate transactions as a “one-stop” resource for identifying potential partners, marketing companies for sale, determining business valuation, managing transactions and developing post-sale financial and operational strategies.
