Propane Market Metrics: PERC boosts on-road programs for 2027

Commentary: In July, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) published its proposed 2027 budget plan for public comment. The plan calls for total revenues of $37.7 million and total expenses of $40.8 million.
The plan includes $31.9 million for direct program expenditures – a 7.5 percent increase from 2026 program spending. Of note is a $4.3 million, or 119 percent, increase in on-road programs for 2027.
PERC attributes the ramp-up to “product development milestones” with Nexio’s Class 7 bobtail truck and strip chassis for multiple applications and the Blue Bird propane-powered Type D school bus. The latter project is designed to provide another option against diesel, natural gas and electric school bus technologies.
According to the council, the on-road market also funds a new autogas research program focused on propane dedicated and bi-fuel systems, a paratransit and Type-A E-450 bus project, and the on-road share of the calibration and durability validation for the LPG direct injection 6.6-liter L8T engine.
Finally, PERC says it is expanding business development in the autogas market to support additional corporate-fleet trade shows, school transportation engagement, and refreshed market development and data tools.
