Propane Safety Minute: Winter delivery
At the height of the busiest season for both delivery drivers and the customers who rely on propane for their home heat, winter weather can pose plenty of dangerous challenges. From snow and sleet to harsh cold temperatures and icy roads, drivers face challenging conditions to complete their winter propane deliveries. Here are a few simple steps you can implement to make your winter deliveries as safe as possible:

1. Arm your drivers with the proper equipment
Equipment designed to battle winter’s toughest conditions such as winter tires, snow chains and emergency kits can ensure your drivers are well equipped to navigate winter road conditions. Proper winter clothing and footwear with removable cleats can also ensure drivers can stay warm and maintain traction on icy surfaces as they face the elements. Regular vehicle maintenance checks are also critical to prevent potential breakdowns in the midst of harsh winter conditions.
2. Put a customer notification system in place
Dangerous winter weather conditions can change quickly. Implementing a customer notification system can help deliver proactive alerts and updates to customers quickly to improve delivery safety. With a notification system, you can use automated messages or calls to remind customers to clear their driveways and the pathways to their propane tanks of snow and ice. These simple messages can help drivers navigate safely and ensure timely deliveries without preventable delays.
3. Proactively place tanks for easy access
At the time of propane tank installation, be sure to consider delivery access in all weather conditions. Tanks should be installed in areas that can be easily accessed from driveways, even when snow accumulates. Avoid locations that are prone to heavy snowdrifts or ice buildup. Proactively positioning tanks at the time of their installation can reduce the risk of accidents and ensure drivers can carry out their deliveries efficiently.
