Thermotane Propane acquires Matchett Propane
Thermotane Propane, a family-owned and -operated Florida-based propane company established in 1947, acquired Matchett Propane, a long-standing propane provider in Interlachen, Florida. This marks only the second acquisition in Thermotane’s 77-year history and signifies a major milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy.
This privately negotiated, owner-to-owner purchase adds Matchett Propane’s operations to Thermotane’s expanding portfolio, bringing its total number of locations to three. With this strategic move, Thermotane is now positioned to serve a broader customer base across the Gainesville, Ocala and St. Augustine markets, according to the company.

“We are proud to welcome Matchett Propane into the Thermotane family,” says Chandler Robertson, president of Thermotane. “This move not only supports our mission of delivering lower propane prices and exceptional service, but it also brings us closer to our long-term vision of becoming Florida’s leading independent propane provider.”
Thermotane has maintained a strong presence in central Florida since its inception. This acquisition, the company says, brings not only expanded reach but also new opportunities to serve both residential and commercial propane users in fast-growing regions of north central Florida.
This acquisition is also part of Thermotane’s aggressive expansion goal of opening five locations in five years, a vision set in motion in 2023. With a fourth location already in the permitting phase and a fifth site under active consideration, the company is ahead of schedule. Internally, leadership is already considering expanding that vision to “seven locations in seven years” as demand and opportunity continue to grow.
Customers of Matchett Propane will see a seamless transition, with improved service access, expanded customer support and the same hometown feel, Thermotane adds. Existing service lines will continue uninterrupted, and new customers in surrounding areas are encouraged to inquire about availability.
