Lakes Gas expands Midwest footprint with Superior Gas Service acquisition

February 12, 2026 By     0 Comments

Lakes Gas, based in Wyoming, Minnesota, has acquired Superior Gas Service of Marshfield, Wisconsin. Superior becomes Lakes Gas’ 60th staffed location.

According to Lakes Gas, this purchase reflects its continued commitment to local, community-focused propane service while expanding delivery capabilities and convenience for customers throughout the region.

Founded in 1959, Lakes Gas has long been committed to strengthening access to propane across rural communities throughout the Upper Midwest, says the company, which ranked 14th on LP Gas’ 2026 Top Retailers list with 68.5 million gallons in sales. As the largest family-owned propane company in the region, Lakes Gas continues to invest in infrastructure, safety advancements and long-term propane supply stability.

The acquisition of Superior Gas Service supports these goals, Lakes Gas says, by expanding operational capacity, enhancing distribution and reinforcing the company’s role in maintaining reliable, locally focused propane solutions.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Superior Gas Service customers into the Lakes Gas family,” says Trent Hampton, CEO of Lakes Gas. “As a family-owned company, we care deeply about the communities we serve. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition while continuing the friendly, local service customers have come to expect. We look forward to providing dependable propane delivery, expanded programs and industry-leading customer service.”

Adds Aaron Huizenga, East Division manager at Lakes Gas, “At Lakes Gas, we believe being local matters. We’re honored to continue serving Superior Gas Service customers with the same hometown values and personalized attention they deserve.”

Lakes Gas says it will continue to emphasize community involvement, local decision-making and the personalized service style that has defined both companies for decades.
