Arkansas Propane Gas Association appoints EVP

James Cox assumed the role of executive vice president and safety trainer for the Arkansas Propane Gas Association (APGA), a nonprofit association that supports propane advocacy, education and safety.

He brings extensive industry training and compliance experience to APGA.

“With 19 years of experience in the propane industry and dedication to safety and training, James brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to APGA,” says Luke Fitzpatrick, president and CEO of the Missouri Propane Gas Association and Missouri Propane Education & Research Council, which manages APGA.

Cox began his propane career in 2005 as a service technician, handling tank setups, piping and installations. He has trained extensively in hauling gas, motor fuel and grill cylinders while ensuring compliance with the Department of Transportation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Arkansas LP Gas regulations. His expertise also includes managing bulk plant issues, emergency shutdown valves and regulatory oversight.

In his previous role as safety manager for AmeriGas, Cox led comprehensive service technician training programs across the United States. He has instructed hundreds of people and remains passionate about fostering safety in the propane industry.

In his new role, Cox aims to advance propane safety and training initiatives across Arkansas. In collaboration with the Arkansas LP Gas Administration and MPGA, he will provide job-specific, hands-on training for propane industry employees, managers and contractors at all levels.

“My main focus is to equip LP professionals in Arkansas with the best possible training to perform their jobs safely,” Cox says. “Our goal is to provide essential knowledge on safe practices, codes and DOT and OSHA compliance.”
