Blue Bird recall addresses corrosion potential of propane tank fuel line

July 9, 2014 By

Blue Bird Body Co. is recalling certain model year 2012-13 Vision school buses manufactured from Jan. 10, 2012, to April 24, 2013, and equipped with a Roush CleanTech propane fuel system, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notice.

Due to a reaction between the different metals, the affected vehicles may develop a propane leak where the aluminum fuel line fitting contacts the brass supply valve housing. The recall notice says 388 vehicles are potentially affected.

Blue Bird will notify owners, and dealers will replace the aluminum fuel line fitting with a new stainless steel fitting for free, the notice states. Owners may contact Blue Bird customer service at 478-822-2242. Blue Bird’s number for the recall is R14XD. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
