February 2023: Midwest propane prices, rail shipments

Each month, LP Gas provides updates on the U.S. propane market, as well as the latest trends. The data for February 2023 focuses on propane prices and rail shipments in Midwest markets.

Commentary: Propane prices at some Midwest market centers – including Rapid River, Michigan, and Mankato, Minnesota – were correlated with prices at Conway, Kansas, while Edmonton, Alberta, prices diverged downward, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) as of Jan. 31.

Commentary: The premium for propane at Conway, Kansas, relative to Edmonton, Alberta, stood at about 22 cents per gallon as of Jan. 31. That price spread is sufficient to cover rail shipments from Canada to some Midwest markets, according to the EIA.
