Virginia school district adds autogas buses

May 5, 2017 By

Newport News Public Schools in Newport News, Virginia, added 24 Blue Bird Vision propane autogas school buses to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to Roush CleanTech.

The new buses come equipped with Ford’s 6.8-liter V10 engine powered by a Roush CleanTech propane fuel system. The school district pays about 45 percent less for propane per gallon compared with diesel, Roush CleanTech says.

“After two years of attending trade shows, meeting with bus manufacturers and talking with colleagues in school districts that operate alternative fuel buses, we knew this was the direction we wanted to pursue,” says Shay Coates, director of transportation at Newport News Public Schools. “The benefits of propane, in comparison to diesel, made it an easy choice for the school district.”
