Amendments to repeal PERA defeated

January 5, 2012 By

Two amendments submitted by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., designed to repeal the Propane Education and Research Act (PERA) are dead, NPGA announced. One amendment would have eliminated funding for Department of Energy employees whose job it is to oversee the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC). The second amendment would have repealed PERA, legislation enacted in 1996 that established PERC.

DeMint’s opposition related to check-off programs in general, rather than an objection specifically to PERC, according to NPGA. NPGA said it assembled a legislative team to successfully combat the efforts to repeal PERA.
