Davenport Energy Inc., a propane retailer and petroleum products company based in Chatham, Virginia, acquired Lester-Penn Coal & Oil Corp.

Lester-Penn, based in Martinsville, Virginia, provides fuel oil and other products to homes and businesses. Davenport Energy provides the same petroleum products and services to customers around Martinsville and throughout southern Virginia. In addition, Davenport Energy offers its customers propane and propane appliances.

According to Davenport Energy, Lester-Penn President Edwin G. Penn III plans to retire, but he will work closely with the company during the transition period.

“We know Davenport Energy and know they give good service,” Penn says. “We feel like they will treat our customers well, too.”

Davenport Energy, which launched in 1941, serves more than 25,000 customers from eight offices in Virginia. The Lester-Penn office has closed and all of its business has been redirected to Davenport Energy’s Martinsville office.
