December 2023: Propane spot prices

Commentary: The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) began forecasting spot prices at Mont Belvieu with its September Short-Term Energy Outlook. Propane spot prices typically fall between Brent crude oil and Henry Hub natural gas prices on an energy basis since propane is a product of both. When forecasting propane spot prices, the EIA considers propane inventories in the Gulf Coast region, where most U.S. petrochemical consumption, propane export capacity and propane storage capacity are located.
